ANNUAL REPORTS
At each year’s annual government-to-government tribal consultation, tribal leaders and representatives take time from their busy lives to share recommendations and concerns related to violence against American Indian and Alaska Native women. Many also submit written recommendations to the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of the Interior, and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services about improving the federal response to violence against American Indian and Alaska Native women.
OVW produces an annual report which summarizes the recommendations, testimony, and dialogue from the government-to-government tribal consultations, held pursuant to Public Law 109-162, Title IX, Section 903 of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2005, as amended. Please note that the consultation summary reports do not reflect the opinions or positions of the U.S. Department of Justice; rather, they provide a comprehensive overview of the testimony received. These documents have no force or effect of law and do not create any legally binding rights or obligations on persons or entities.
OVW also produces an update report in preparation for each year’s consultation. This report provides a comprehensive update on activities undertaken in the preceding year to respond to recommendations made at the prior year’s consultation, including the Department of Justice’s coordination and collaboration with tribes and other federal agencies to address these recommendations.
